If you could have one car from your past, what would it be?

Can be any car that was yours or in your family at some point.

For me, it would either be this:

Kinja'd!!!

Or this:

Kinja'd!!!

Both of which belonged to my dad at one point or another.

My '05 Subaru Legacy GT wagon...it was like a WRX for a family man.

Awesome post/question!

Kinja'd!!!

Where to start? Dad had an assortment of cool cars (mom's history sucked until recently). I'd say I want our 1972 Pontiac Catalina back. The one pictured isn't our old one but it's damn-near identical. Big 400ci V8 engine with lots of grunt and a yawning chasm for an interior, you could fit 6-8 adults comfortably to go out for lunch. It was such a cool car. We purchased it in Ft Wayne, Indiana, had it painted and drove it down to MD and kept it for a few years. We make a few grand off selling it but I'd happily buy it back.

1995 S-10 ZR2

Kinja'd!!!

Second hand and well taken care of. Came upgraded with locking diffs, glass pack mufflers, Centerforce clutch, and about $2000 in stereo equipment (no subs).

What it lacked in quality it made up for in capability, looks, and fun.

I traded it in for a 1999 Eclipse Spyder RS. So much fail.

Oh yeah. It was small. With the seat all the way back, my arms would stretch 3-4 inches past the steering wheel, and I'm only 5'8".

The shorter wheelbase of the regular cab is what made it so much fun. I used to love turning the wheel, dropping the clutch, and feeling the light as a feather back end do a bed bouncing donut on it's 33" offroad tires.

I'm not a big truck fan either (they're tools that can be fun), but this thing sounded and looked like a beast.

I actually looked into an Alltrac that was near me a few months ago for a second car, and fell in love with them. I then learned that they're a bit hard to maintain, so I deemed it not ideal for a second car.

Some day....

So. Many.

From the cars I've owned:

Kinja'd!!!

I'd take either the '66 Mustang Fastback or the ...

Kinja'd!!!

'67 Alfa Giulia Super I had in high school.

For family cars:

Kinja'd!!!

My Gramps' '66 Galaxie 500 'vert he had when I was a kid.

Kinja'd!!!

The '64 Cadillac 'vert my mom drove when I was very young or ...

Kinja'd!!!

the '56 Buick Special 'vert she had before I was born (this became my oldest sister's first car).

Kinja'd!!!

The '72 914/6 that same sister drove when she was in college.

Kinja'd!!!

The '49 MG TD my dad had when he was in college.

There are even more but this exercise is just depressing me. :(

Yeah turbocharging, all wheel drive and late 80's/early 90's is a recipe for a lot of maintenance.

Mine certainly required quite a bit. Still, the build quality was really pretty good all things considered. But I will never forget replacing the clutch on that car. It involved putting the car on a lift, dropping the engine and trans, then using two engine hoists since the transmission pretty much weighed the same as the engine. I had a mechanic do it, but my summer job at the time was at the place where they were working on it. The mechanic gave me a ton of shit for having to work on it.

On the other hand, it rains a lot here and anything rwd was effectively slower. Which is particularly hilarious if you have the very slow looking 88-89 version.

My Dad's old Camry Wagon. I can't remember if it was an 89 or 90, but the V6 pulled well and I still love the way it looked. He drove it until 2003 when a 350Z made an illegal U-turn and T-boned the old dear. The 350Z was totaled, but the Camry was repairable. It wasn't worth it in the end and he bought my uncle's Civic.

My dad's car legacy can be summed up in the GTO. His first car was a '64 he bought in '65, while in high school. his second car was the '67 GTO, and his current fun car is an '06 GTO. But the car I would have out of all of that would have been his '72 Chevelle 454.
